Hydrocarbon separators conform EN 858-1 keep the hydrocarbon reject below 5 mg per liter. For forecourt applications, there is no bypass and all water is treated. With a bypass, larger flow rates can be obtained but only the first runoff water entering the separator is fully treated. It contains most of the contaminants. Bypassed separators are typically used on parking lots.
